The next monthly meeting of the Photo Salon is Tuesday, Oct. 2nd at 7pm at Hoffman Center. On the program is a look at the photos of Julius Jortner who will also give a talk on “Can a photo be “art”?
Jortner discusses the philosophical question, with reference to the many underlying questions, and illustrates the matter with quotations (words and images) from famous people, including Gerhard Richter and Susan Sontag. He shows some of his own photos that aspire to art and contrasts them to some that clearly are not. He talks about the processes by which he arrives at his “final” images, and concludes with the assertion that what matters is the outcome, not the process.
There will also be short presentation by Gene Dieken on The Absolute Basics of Editing & Improving Your Photos using editors like Photoshop or GIMP. Gene will be using the excellent open source editor Gimp for the demo. This application is free, available for Mac, Windows & Linux. Download the latest version at gimp.org.
As always, photographers who’d like to show their work & get feedback are VERY welcome!
