Written and directed by Dziga Vertov, the work documents urban life in the early Soviet Union. “This playful film is at once a documentary of a day in the life of the Soviet Union, a documentary of the filming of said documentary, and a depiction of an audience watching the film,” said commentator George S. Davis. “The film anticipates many of the techniques used (over) 50 years later in Koyaanisqatsi (1982).”

The Manzanita Film Series is proud to present True Grit on Saturday November 27th at 7pm. Admission is $6.

John Wayne was given an Oscar for his performance as the drunken, uncouth, one-eyed U.S. Marshall, Rooster Cogburn, in this extraordinary Western. Cogburn is hired by a young girl (Kim Darby) to kill the man who murdered her father and to steal the family nest egg, and she insists on accompanying Cogburn on his quest. Cogburn isn’t happy about this, nor with the Texas Ranger La Boeuf (Glen Campbell) who also tags along and wants the reward. Laughter and tears punctuate the wild action as this odd threesome form a reluctant bond.

The Manzanita Film Series is a program of the Hoffman Center in Manzanita, Oregon. Films are screened on the 4th weekend of the month through out the year. Admission is $6 and theater concessions, as well as beer and wine, are available for purchase. Please contact Franz Hasslacher, at franzhass@gmail.com for volunteer opportunities.

Thompson” on September 25th at 7p.m. at the Hoffman Center in Manzanita. This fast moving documentary looks at the uncanny life of gonzo journalist Hunter S. Thompson. Fueled by Wild Turkey and superhuman doses of drugs, we are shown Thompson’s major touchstone moments such as his ill-fated relationship with the Hell’s Angels, his involvement in George McGovern’s 1972 presidential campaign and much more through clips of never-before-seen home movies, audiotapes and passages from unpublished manuscripts.

The Manzanita Film Series is a program of the Hoffman Center in Manzanita, Oregon. Films will be screened on the 4th weekend of the month throughout the year. Admission is $6 and theater concessions, as well as beer and wine, will be available for purchase.

Please contact Franz Hasslacher, franzhass@gmail.com for volunteer opportunities.
