Open Mic

Writers can register at the door to read from their original work. The first nine registrants are invited to read for five minutes each. Here are some tips from experienced open mic readers you might find helpful:

  • Avoid lengthy introductions to your work, as that will be included in your five minutes
  • Rehearse, and time, your piece at a moderate pace. Be sure to read out loud – it does make a difference
  • Typically, five minutes will allow no more than 3 pages, double-spaced, in a 12 point font, or less than 1,000 words
